rodarte summer

one goal i've placed on myself this summer is to create some light, gauzy, maybe even floral/lace clothes. skeleton-animal-tusk-bone-white, creeam-puff-pastry-white-and-cream. after reading the biography of Remedios Varo, Unexpected Journeys, by Janet Kaplan, and finding out all about her life before she started spitting out those miniature masterpieces,... as a designer for the ballet, and how she made almost everything she wore, i've decided i've really got to try that out. of course, it'll be a long while before i have even a few pieces of clothing i've made myself that can actually be worn out of the house. in any case, i'm going into this project heavily influenced by rodarte:

really pretty, I really want to learn to make my own clothes and cook almost everything from scratch. I'm just kind of tired of a cheap all consuming life with out producing anything.

agreeeeed. I've already started fixing broken things (instead of letting them just sit around or throwing them out), and making the jewelry and trinkets i don't care for into pretty things. giving clothes a second life, etc. I really want to learn to cook things from scratch, especially dessert, but I haven't found the will/patience just yet. except for soups! mmm i have a delicious recipe for a butternut squash soup! and i'm figuring out Colombian ajiaco (because i don't like ours)...in general, soups are the easiest things to make from scratch though I think. don't know when i will branch out.

Oh my god yes, Colombian ajiaco is the shit. I need to get into making bomb ass soups. I have this amazing julia childs baking cookbook but it all looks so daunting and I'm a little intimidated! I think we should try baking something from it.
